Where's My Joey? by Wendy Winter is a heartfelt children's story of a mother kangaroo that's lost her Joey! She travels all over Australia looking for him. She talks to everyone, Mr. Echidna, the Kookaburra Family, even friends in Canada! As her Joey's dinner grows cold, she worries that she may not find him.
Author Wendy Winter's story is filled with adorable characters that were very emotive throughout the story,which is important to help children learn to recognize emotions. Each page is covered top to bottom illustrations that have a soft color pallet that compliments that overall soothing feel of the story. The pictures are beautiful, detailed, and some of them are ready to frame and hang up on the wall as art. I'm thinking of two scenes specifically; the one where the mother and her joey are sitting and reading together, and the map of Australia. These are amazing art pieces all on their own and the map of Australia helps the reader learn where certain animals live, and the geography.
The plot of the story sends the mother kangaroo on a hunt that serves as a great opportunity to introduce children to different types of interesting animals. It reminds me of the P. D. Eastman book Are You My Mother?.
Where's My Joey? is a cute and entertaining story packed with lovable characters and vibrant scenes. Where's My Joey? is the most heartwarming and educational picture book I have read all year.

Can you imagine how it feels for a mother to lose her baby? Where's My Joey? is a children's book written by Wendy Monica Winter and illustrated by Roxana Antochi.
Just like every other loving mum, mother Kangaroo calls her precious one, Joey, for dinner. But surprisingly, he is missing. As a result, she embarks on a search to find Joey. On her way, she meets different animals like Ms. Rabbit, Mr. Emu, and some aquatic animals and asks them if they have seen Joey. Will this loving mother eventually find her missing young one? And where could her Joey be?
This story is heartwarming. I read it with my little niece, and she loved it. We toured around with mother Kangaroo on her search. We went on a virtual expedition to Australia and Canada, where we saw some sea animals like whales and turtles. The experience was beautiful. The author wrote in a simple style that will suit the targeted audience.
My favorite aspect of this book is its unique story line. It led to a satisfying end that I never expected. Children will enjoy this fascinating story and learn a lot from it. They will become familiar with some animals and also learn about some places in Australia.
Roxana Antochi did an excellent job of making the illustrations in the book very appealing. Right from the cover page to the book's last page, Ms. Antochi's illustrations never ceased to impress me. They are beautiful, colorful, charming, and would pique the interest of young readers. Children will also love the unique characters in the book and especially relate to Ms. Kangaroo due to her efforts towards finding Joey.
Furthermore, children would have fun with the exercises at the end of the book. My niece was eager to trace and follow Ms. Kangaroo on her search. The author also provided another Australian map at the end of the book so that children can compare it to the one on the first page and spot the differences. I was engrossed in trying to spot the differences, and I believe children would also be excited to do the same.
There's nothing to dislike about this book. It is exceptionally edited and without any typos. Considering all the pros in favor of it, I'm pleased to give Where's My Joey? a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
Overall, this is a lovely book that should be on the shelf of every home. The ending was so satisfying, intriguing, and hilarious. I recommend Where's My Joey? to children between the ages of 3 and 1
