The compact unit--which mounts on a wall or sits unobtrusively on a desktop or shelf--sports a three-line LCD panel that displays the indoor temperature on the top line, the outdoor temperature on the middle line, and the indoor relative humidity on the bottom line. As a result, you can instantly gauge whether to wear shorts or pants on a seemingly mild summer day, give the plants a little extra water in the morning, or crank the air conditioner as the afternoon progresses. The temperature readings range from 32 to 104 degrees F (0 to 40 degrees C) for the indoor temperature to -58 to 158 degrees F (-50 to 70 degrees C) for the outdoor temperature. The relative humidity, meanwhile, is measured on a scale of 1 to 99 percent, with the hygrometer performing best between 40 and 70 percent.
