About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Flexible, Unique, Freeing. How did you come up with the idea for this product? Co-founder Gaston hated tying his shoes ever since he was a child. Untied laces were dangerous, bows were unflattering and constant tying was tedious. In college, Gaston began exploring alternatives to tying his shoes. After more than ten years of research, development, and prototyping, Gaston and Mariquel founded HICKIES in 2012. What makes your product special? The HICKIES Lacing System is the only alternative shoe lacing system that is modular by design and allows customization to every individual foot and shoe.
