Description
Mochi is a snack food consisting of smooth glutinous rice paste, often with sweet fillings. It is most closely associated with Japanese culture, but similar sticky rice-based foods exist throughout East Asia including in China and Korea. For this reason its popularity as a treat extends far beyond the borders of Japan. Mochi is also gaining in popularity outside of Asia thanks to its unique marshmallow-like texture and wide range of fillings. It has become a favorite snack item and is available in numerous U.S. Asian and mainstream stores.
