Description
One of the most maligned books in socialist history. Written by Eduard Bernstein, an official in the German Social Democratic party, "Evolutionary Socialism" argued that the socialist movement should drop its revolutionary goals, and instead turn itself into a peaceful political party that would work for gradual legal reforms through the parliamentary system. Attacked by radicals like Rosa Luxemburg and Vladimir Lenin, the reformist program argued by "Evolutionary Socialism" did indeed become the path taken by most socialist parties everywhere, including the German Social Democrats and the British Labour Party. And even today, the question of "reform or revolution" still rages in radical leftist movements.
