hold your material firmly. This means there is less slipping and movement of your material as you iron.
You can use steam with our wool pressing mat, however, you will find you don't need to as often as the dense wool is so efficient at distributing even heat to your material.
NOTEIf you do use steam, make sure to put something under your mat to protect the surface underneath from moisture. If you use steam, you may notice a "damp wool" smell. This is normal. When you are finished, leave your mat out to dry before putting it away as this will prevent odors from building up in the fibers. Your mat can be hand washed and hung to dry as needed.
