I was part of the spelling bee circuit (as a judge and coach) when my children participated in school and regional spelling bees during their elementary school years. They learned valuable lessons in hard work, perseverance, time management, and goal setting that I incorporate in a fun way in SOPHIE WASHINGTON: QUEEN OF THE BEE.
In this middle grade book for kids ages 8-12 Sophie sets a challenging goal for herself and overcomes various distractions, naysayers, and obstacles in her attempts to achieve it. It is my hope that kids reading this story will be entertained and also be challenged to strive for their dreams no matter how difficult they may seem to obtain.

About the Author
Tonya Duncan Ellis is the author of the award winning, Readers' Favorite "Five Star" rated, Sophie Washington children's books series, geared toward readers ages 8 to 12, and is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
