It's up to you if you want to use it, the straw will function as intended with or without it.● It can handle hot drinks, but we wouldn’t recommend it. You would not drink a very hot coffee with your straw and same logic applies here.● The straw is not for Boba/Bubble Tea/Tapioca drinks.● All the components are dishwasher safe. Make sure to dry the straw and cleaning brush completely before putting them in the case.● Clean each component before your first use.● The case has no holes when closed.● You can suck either on the narrow or wide side of the straw.
