Our Heaven Baby is full of whimsy and wonder while taking seriously the heartbreak of miscarriage. Told from the perspective of five‐year‐old Abel, this story takes the reader from learning that Abel's mommy is going to have a baby, to learning the baby died, and then imagining what it might be like in heaven, where the baby now resides and will one day be reunited with his family. The illustrations are beautiful and the books is easy for children to understand and engage with. The author, Leah Vis, draws on the true story of her own miscarriage and gives us a window into how she and her family experienced the loss. Simply stated: I love this book. Miscarriage is an incredibly difficult subject, yet OUR HEAVEN BABY not only explains that subject to children in terms that they can understand but does so with an incredibly gentle and uplifting message. I don't take it lightly having a healthy pregnancy. I've seen far too many sick premie babies when working in the hospital, heard too many stories about early and late miscarriages and have known those who've experienced stillbirth. These things have happened to our fellow mankind, and I think they need to be openly talked about so we can cry with one another, carry each other and offer love and hope. I have yet to encounter a picture book that so authentically addresses saying goodbye and dealing with the loss of an expectant baby from a child's perspective. I have yet to encounter a picture book that uses both stunning pictures and accessible, written word to help our Littles understand and deal with the loss of their expectant brother and or sister—that is, until I got my hands on Leah Vis and Aeron Brown's
